Biography: 

After being the assistant director of Otar Iosseliani, Rithy Pahn, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Emmanuel Finkiel or Bertrand Tavernier, Julie Bertuccelli started her career as a director in 1993, with a documentary dedicated to the work of a gravedigger, “Un métier comme les autres”. It was the first success in a row of several documentaries broadcasted on Arte, France 3 and France 5 and awarded at many festivals.
In 2003, her first feature film, “Since Otar Left”, won the Critics’ Week Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, the Best First Feature Film Award at the César and the Marguerite Duras and Michel d’Ornano Prizes.
Shot in Australia, “The Tree”, her second feature starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, was screened as the Closing Film of the Official Competition at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.
While busy with the upcoming release of “School of Babel,” Julie Bertuccelli is working on her third feature film.
