Biography

Pavel Lounguine was born in Moscow in 1949. Having studied mathematics and linguistics, he took a scriptwriting degree in 1978 and wrote around ten scripts for television and cinema. European audiences discovered him in 1990 via his first, masterly, feature, Taxi Blues, which was selected for Cannes and took a prize there, as did most of his later works, Luna Park (1992), Ligne de vie (1996) and La noce (2000), a collective portrait of a small provincial mining town two hundred kilometres from Moscow.
