Biography

Jean-Pascal Hattu has been a journalist for several years, before working as assistant director of André Téchiné on LES ROSEAUX SAUVAGES (WILD REEDS) and LES VOLEURS (THIEVES). Afterwards he directed three short fiction films : COMA in 1995, AU DESSUS DE LA MER (ABOVE THE SEA) in 1997 and CADEAUX (GIFTS) in 2000. He also directed about ten documentaries including GARDEZ LE SOURIRE (KEEP SMILING) about a young warden woman, which contributed to inspire him for his first feature, 7 ANS (7 YEARS). Après plusieurs années de journalisme, Jean-Pascal HATTU fait sa rencontre avec le cinéma en étant assistant d’André Téchiné sur « Les roseaux sauvages » et « Les voleurs ». Il réalise ensuite trois court-métrages de fiction : « Coma » (1995), « Au dessus de la mer »(1997) puis « Cadeaux » (2000). Il a signé également une dizaine de documentaires dont « Gardez le sourire », l’histoire d’une jeune gardienne de prison qui contribua à l’inspirer pour l’écriture de « 7 ans », son premier long métrage.
