Biography

Born in 1969, Jean-Stéphane Bron studied cinema in Italy at Ipotesi Cinema under the direction of Ermanno Olmi, then at the Lausanne Cantonal Art School (ECAL), where he graduated with honours in 1995.He presented his first documentary, Connu de nos services - Known to our departments, at the Piazza Grande of the Locarno international film festival – the film received an enthusiastic welcome from critics and public alike. He released La bonne conduite - The way I look at you two years later. This film was screened in festivals around the world and received many awards, including the New York Times’ “Original vision” award. He then shot En Cavale – On the run for Arte. He started shooting his next film Mais im Bundeshuus – Corn in Parliament in 2001. Produced by Robert Boner, the shooting lasted over two years. A major success in Swiss cinema with over 100’000 entries, it won the Swiss Film Award in 2004.Co-written with Karin Sudan – who also edits his films – My Brother is Getting Married is his first fictional film.His new documentary project CLEVELAND VERSUS WALL STREET has been selected at La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs Cannes Film Festival 2010.
