This is a tale about the fall of a great Egyptian family, waiting for the liberation of their unique son after 12 years in jail. Ali is freed eventually, but his prison years have broken his youth and ideals. After the family reunion, soon comes for his relatives the disillusion. Whether for Fatma, his fiancée, who has been waiting for him the all time; whether for Hassouna, the worker that has put in him his hopes for a better world and even for Ibrahim, Ali's nephew, who hopelessly counted on his experience and advice for future projects.
Une grande famille égyptienne en pleine décadence attend le retour du fils, en prison depuis 12 ans. Un jour, Ali est libéré et rejoint les siens, mais ses années de prison ont brisé sa jeunesse et ses idéaux. Passé la joie des retrouvailles, c’est la désillusion pour ses proches : Fatma, sa fiancée qui l’a attendu depuis son départ, Hassouna, l’ouvrier qui avait placé en lui ses espoirs d'un monde plus juste et Ibrahim, son neveu, qui comptait vainement sur un soutien de son oncle pour ses projets de départ.
