"The first shot were made in 1994, the last in 2005. More than ten years of my life condensed into one hundred minutes of screen-time. My first autobiographical film, "This Machine Does Not Accept Messages" was made in 1978. I appear in it, my head wrapped in bandages. I worked with a cameraman and a sound engineer. My second autobiographical film was made in 1996. I made it alone. The camera represents my POV. My voice is on sound. My hands are on screen, not my face. This time, in "FILMMAN", I am seen. My face appears – for a reason. A specific reason." Alain Cavalier
"Les premiers plans du film ont été tournés en 1994, les dernières images datent de 2005. Plus de dix ans d’une vie en cent minutes de projection. Mon premier film autobiographique « Ce Répondeur ne prend pas de messages » date de 1978. J’y figurais la tête entourée de bandelettes. Un opérateur et un ingénieur du son m’accompagnaient. Pour mon deuxième, « la Rencontre » en 1996, j’étais seul en caméra subjective. On entendait ma voix, on voyait mes mains mais pas mon visage. Cette fois-ci, dans « le Filmeur », je me découvre, je montre ma tête. Pour une raison tout à fait précise." Alain Cavalier
